A STORY OF LOUIS FISCHER

Louis Fischer, the son of David and shifrah (Kantzapolsky) Fischer, was born on 29th Febrauary, 1896 in Philadelphia. He attended the Philadelphia School of Pedagogy from 1914 to 1916, then taught in the public schools for the next two years. Starting his career as a teacher, he switched over to journalism. In 1921, he became a contributor to the New York Post from Berlin. In 1922, The Nation sent him to Russia as its special European Correspondent. There he married Bertha Mark of Libau, Latvia. He was well-versed in English, Russian, German, French and understood Spanish.

He made frequent and long visits to Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia France and Italy. He met all popular leaders of many countries personally. He was a great humanists and tried to understand and make others understand alien cultures and races. During his first visit to India in 1942, he stayed with Gandhi for a week at his ashram in Sevagram. During his second trip to India on 25th June, 1946, he revisited Gandhi in his stone-hut in a slum and had many meetings with all Indian leaders in various cities. He had his last meeting with Gandhi on 18th July, 1946.

Species which are in danger of extinction are known as endangered species. If the threats are not looked in to the endangered species, at one stage they will become extinct or their population will decline. If this trend persists in an ecosystem, the balance between predator and prey in food chain is affected. In Asia, over harvesting of bull frogs which eats the mosquito, paved the way for the exuberant growth of mosquito population and caused malarial diseases.

Hi friends, here is short life story of Great Novelist George Orwell.
George Orwell is the pen name of Eric Arthur Blair, a British novelist, essayist and political writer. Born in India, he was educated in England. Being lonely and sensitive , Orwell had a very unhappy schooling; he was constantly reminded of his poverty. As soon as he completed his education in school, he took up a job in Burma Police Service. Within five years leaving his job he returned to England. The years that followed were miserable and it was during this period that Orwell worked as a part-time assistant in a London bookshop. He was accepted as a renowned writer with his publication of Animal Farm (1945), an allegorical novel. His most famous novel 1984 was published in 1949. He died a year later all of a sudden due to tuberculosis.

Bookshop Memories is about his experience in the bookshop where he had the opportunity of observing all kinds of customers, their eccentricity, taste ans snobbery. His prose style which is “like a clear running stream” is evident in this essay. To be continued….. With Regards.

Now the team is planning to move to Europe for the next schedule.In an interview, the Varanam Aayiram girl said that she loves sea sports and had spent her free time in Malaysia scuba diving. When asked if Ajith would accompany her, the actress said that Ajith is always busy watching home videos of his daughter during his spare time.

Ajith also took a break to be with his daughter in Chennai twice during their stay in Malaysia, it is reported.

WILLIAM BLAKE (1757 – 1827)

William Blake was an English artist and a mystical poet. He was born in London as the son of hosier. James Blake recognized his sons artistic talents even at his early age but it was beyond his potential to finance his sons formal education. Hence in 1777 William Blake was sent to James Basire, an engraver. Here, the young apprentice spent his leisure time in writing poems and gradually turned into budding poet. In 1783 he published poetical sketches which was lyrical in quality. He published Songs of Innocence (1789) and Songs of Experience (1794) written in two distinct and dominant moods of joy and sorrow respectively. His mystical bent of mind found fuller expression in his works the book of Thel (1787), the Marriage of Heaven and Hell (1790), the Gales of Paradise and the Vision of the Daughter of Albion (1793).

William Blake is a mystic, who sees the ultimate Reality behind the ordinary reality. The tiger is a poem from Blake’s Songs of experience in which he projects the more cruel and fearful aspects of life. At the simplest reading, this poem appears to describe the symmetry and strength of this poem appears to describe the symmetry and strength of this awe-inspiring animal. Besides recognizing the beauty of this stupendous creation, it recognizes painfully the strength and destructive nature of the tiger. However, a deep reading of the poem reveals that the tiger is truly the symbol of all that is cruel and awful in the world. Ironically the same Creator who made the lamb, the most peaceful and gentlest of creatures, made the tiger in all its fearful beauty and strength as though to emphasize that the world comprises fierceness and strength with gentleness and peace. NEW STRAIN OF HIV IN GORILLAS

Gorillas have been found, for the first time, to be a source of HIV.

Previous research had shown the HIV-1 strain, the main source of human infections, with 33m cases worldwide, originated from a virus in chimpanzees.

But researchers have now discovered an HIV infection in a Cameroonian woman which is clearly linked to a gorilla strain, Nature Medicine reports.

A researcher told that, though it was a new type of HIV, current drugs might still help combat its effects.

HIV originated from a similar virus in chimpanzees called Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV)

Although HIV/Aids was first recognised by scientists in the 1980s, it is thought to have first entered the human population early in the 20th Century in the region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The virus probably originally jumped into humans after people came into contact with infected bush meat.

SIV viruses have been reported in other primates, including gorillas.

Unusual case

French doctors treating the 62-year-old Cameroonian woman who was living in Paris said they initially spotted some discrepancies in routine viral load tests.

Further analysis of the HIV strain she was infected with showed it was more closely related to SIV from gorillas than HIV from humans.

She is the only person known to be infected with the new strain, but the researchers expect to find other cases.

Before moving to Paris, she had lived in a semi-urban area of Cameroon and had no contact with gorillas or bush meat, suggesting she caught the virus from someone else who was carrying the gorilla strain.

Analysis of the virus in the laboratory has confirmed that it can replicate in human cells.

Co-author Dr David Robertson, from the University of Manchester, said it was the first definitive transfer of HIV seen from a source other than a chimpanzee, and highlighted the need to monitor for the emergence of new strains.

"This demonstrates that HIV evolution is an ongoing process.

"The virus can jump from species to species, from primate to primate, and that includes us; pathogens have been with us for millions of years and routinely switch host species."

The fact the patient had been diagnosed in France showed how human mobility can rapidly transfer a virus from one area of the world to another, he said.

New problems 'unlikely'

Speaking to the Wold Today programme, Dr Robertson said there was no reason to believe that existing drugs would not work on the new virus.

Professor Paul Sharp, from the University of Edinburgh, said the virus probably initially transferred from chimpanzees to gorillas.

He said the latest finding was interesting but perhaps not surprising.

"The medical implication is that, because this virus is not very closely related to the other three HIV-1 groups, it is not detected by conventional tests.

"So the virus could be cryptically spreading in the population."

However, he said that he would guess it would not spread widely and become a major problem.

"Although the patient with this virus was not ill, there is no reason to believe that it will not lead to Aids," he added.

Anthuriums are perennial, herbaceous epiphytes with a climbing habit. They are produced commercially for the wide variety of colours and shapes of their heart-shaped spathes, often referred to as the floral portion. Anthuriums are the most important cut flowers in the floriculture industry today. The top four producers of anthurium cut flowers worldwide are Netherlands, Hawaii, Mauritius, and Jamaica, followed by smaller tropical flower producers in the Philippines, Tahiti, Thailand, Malaysia, India, Brazil, Trinidad, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Florida and California.

Disease problems, including anthracnose, root rot, and lesion nematode, developed as cultivation increased from small plots to large operations. The most serious disease problem to strike the industry is bacterial blight caused by the pathogen Xanthomonas axonopodis pv.dieffenbachiae (X.campestris pv. dieffenbachiae). The disease was first reported in Kauai in 1972. The disease reached epidemic proportion in 1985 – 1989, destroying the production of approximately 200 small farms. Once introduced into new growing area, bacterial blight may result in 50 – 100% loss of plants. This devastating disease has limited anthurium production not only in Hawaii, but throughout the world where anthuriums are produced. Bacterial blight affects most genera and species in the family Araceae By 1992, it had been reported in the Philippines, Guam, Australia, Florida, Jmaica, Puerto Rico, Martinque, Venezuela and Trinidad and has since been reported in India. Recently, in Coorg district of Karnataka, the disease devasted many farms. To be continued……

Hi friends hope you all have a great day ahead…. Today i am going to share you all about John Milton. He is the god-gifted organ-voice of England belonged to an orthodox puritan family. He started writing poetry when he was twenty four. For him the nature and function of poetry was essentially religious. He obtained his M.A degree from Christ’s College, Cambridge and by the age of thirty, Milton had become th most learned man in the country. The death of his first two wives, his loss of sight, his insecurity caused by political changes and his imprisonment did not swerve him from his pursuit of poetry. His major works are Comus (1634), Lycidas (1638), Paradise Lost (1667), and Samson Agonistes (1671).

Paradise Lost is an ambitiously designed poem in twelve books. It is the only completed epic in English and it narrates the Biblical tale of the Fall of Man which “brought death into the world, and all our woe” Adam and Eve, the first human beings created by god, lost the paradise because they ate the forbidden fruit in the garden of Eden; Eve succumbed to the wiles of the Devil, and Adam yielded to Eve’s persuation. VARIETIES & PLANTING MATERIAL

This is again most important decision a grower has to take for the overall viability of a rose project. There are thousands of different rose varieties throughout the world covering a full range of shapes, sizes and colors. It may not be possible for a grower to achieve high returns for all the varieties he chooses. Even if 8 out of 10 varieties fair well and produce as per their characteristics the projects should be deemed to be doing sufficiently well. Adaptability to local conditions should be deemed as a prerequisite to the requirement of a variety chosen. Our growing conditions are so adverse that during the summer the temperature rises to +42 degree centigrade and during winters the night temperature go down to 5 – 7 degree centigrade,particularly in Maharashtra. Bangalore has more uniform conditions in this regard. In spite of such a variation in our environment and climatic conditions Indian growers are in a position to grow Roses which are competing in the international market. Even if the quality of our produce is close to 70 percent of the same produced by countries with more favorable conditions. especially in Africa, South America., we can still compete with them with overall realizations through bigger volumes, due to better light conditions. Looking at the good light conditions combined with good year round production, growers in India must emphasize on bigger volume of production, while maintaining the basic quality parameters. We must fully understand if the rose projects in India have to survive, it would be only through volumes. As such select the varieties with the following characteristics:

Varieties should be well adapted to local conditions
Balanced stem lengths and colors in the varietal mix, Avg stem length of 50 – 70 cm would be wise proposition, under our conditions. We can have an average productions of 180 – 200 stems per sq met in this category, which is enough to maintain the desired quantity and quality.
Longer stems may fetch good realization but, that is when the bud size matched with the stem length. We can achieve such a quality only for couple of months of winter during the whole year, but we would have to sacrifice on the production.
Have, good quantities of fast colors like red followed by pink and yellow.
The most important parameter while choosing a variety has to be its vase life, price at the international market and above all, resistance ti diseases and should be good traveler. To be Continued…. With Regards.

NEW MEDICINE FOR H1N1 SWINE FLU

The antiviral drug which resist H1N1 swine flue virus

The virus was shown to have become resistant to Roche's Tamiflu, also known as oseltamivir.

Tamiflu is the main weapon in the public health arsenal against the swine influenza pandemic, which was decalared earlier this month by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Roche has now confirmed that a patient in Denmark with H1N1 influenza showed resistance to Tamiflu.

The company said 'A' type seasonal influenza had also been known to do the same, and therefore the result was not very surprising.

The United Kingdom has seen three deaths so far from swine flu. The deaths however included a six-year-old girl with underlying health problems, and hospital officials said swine flu was known known for certain to be the cause of her death.

The United States says it estimates that the virus has now infected at least a million Americans.

In the UK, authorities have said the number of swine flu cases had spiked recently, with more than 1,000 new cases since last week, making nearly 6,000 cases nationwide.

So far, the virus has yet to be reported to be developing resistance to Tamiflu in Britain.

Tamiflu can be effective against all forms of influenza if it is taken at the outset. It produces milder symptoms than would be experienced without it, and makes the patient less infectious to others.

The Danish case was the first to be reported of Tamiflu resistance in H1N1, but Roche said there was no sign that the resistant strain was circulating within the community.

Last year's seasonal flu developed a Tamiflu-resistant strain and began circulating widely.

If this happened with swine flu, it could render Tamiflu ineffective in fighting the current pandemic.

One other drug, GlaxoSmithKline's Relenza, also known as zanamivir, has also shown to be effective against swine flu.

Governments around the world began stockpiling antiviral drugs in preparation for a pandemic. The British authorities say they currently have enough to treat half the population.

WILFRED OWEN (1893 – 1918)

Hi friends, today i am going to share you all about the greatest war poet Wilfred Owen. He was one of the greatest war poets. He conveys the futility and devastation caused by war most movingly in his verse. When World War I broke out, Owen got enlisted in the army and was wounded in the war-front. He was awarded the military Cross for “conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty” in 1918. After getting healed, he was called back to war and killed in action just a week before the war came to an end.

Unlike the other poets, who picture war as a great call to nobility, heroism and adventure, Owen sees the cruelty of it and exposes its dehumanizing ugliness and miseries, with an authenticity of his personal experiences. Strange Meeting narrates the vision or a dream, in which the narrator meets a German soldier, whom he had killed the previous day. The dead soldier is sad because he cannot now tell the world the truth about war and the folly of glorifying it. The poem is dramatic and every line throbs with emotion and sincerity. JOHN KEATS (1795 – 1821)

Hi friends hope you all have a great day ahead. Today i am going to share you all about great author John Keats. He is the son of Thomas Keats, an Ostler, was educated at a less expensive primary school in Enfield near London. It was Charles Cowden Clark, his friend who introduced him to the works of Spencer, whose faerie queen inspired him greatly. From 1811 to 1815 he was apprenticed to a physician. However, his irresistible fascination for poetry and the encouragement of his brothers induced him to abandon his medical profession in favor of the poetic vocation. His first volume of poems appeared in 1817 and within two years, he reached the peak of his poetic career. On first Looking into Chapman’s Homer, Isabella, Hyperion, The Eve of St. Agnes, The Eve of st.mark, the odes, la belle dame sans Merci, Lamia and Endymion are some of his well-known poems. In September, 1820, he fell seriously ill, and left London for Naples. The change of climate however, did him no good and he died on February 23rd, 1821 at Rome.

Ode on a Grecian Urn, inspired by the Elgin Marbles, contrasts the unsatisfying human life with art, which is everlastingly beautiful; what life loses in reality, art gains in permanence. The sight or the imagination of a piece of ancient sculpture has set the poet’s mind at work, on the one hand, conjuring up the scenes of ancient life and worship which lay behind and suggested the sculptured images; ad on the other, speculating on the abstract relations of plastic art to life. Keats closes the ode by consigning the message of the urn to the future generations. Thanks and Regards.

Hey all, Whats Up???? Hope you all have a great day ahead. Today I am going to share you all about the Nightingale of India as well as Bharat Kokila, Any Guess???? Okay She is Sarojini Naidu. She was born in Hyderabad. Her father, Aghorenath Chattopadhyay’s wisdom and scholarship nurtured the innate qualities of this prodigy and enabled her to matriculate at the age of twelve. The education she received at the age of twelve. The education she received at the Universities of London and Cambridge, her perfect ear for rhyme and her sensitivity to sound made her a poet of the first order. Her volumes of verse, the golden threshold(1905), The Bird of time (1912) and the broken wing (1917) manifest the poet’s sensitivity to ambiance.

Sarojini Naidu was a multifaceted personality. The sweeping current of the freedom movement pulled her strongly into its fold and made her the president of the Indian National Congress. She served as the Governor of utter Pradesh too.

Sarojini Naidu always had a special liking for her home-town- Hyderabad. Two predominant cultures, the Hindu and the Islamic, converging here had cast an everlasting spell on Sarojini. In this poem she exotically describes the wares displayed in the bazaars of Hyderabad. She has beautifully and gracefully captured the bright colors, forms and sounds in In The Bazaars of Hyderabad. ROBERT FROST (1874 – 1963)

Hey all, Robert Frost was born in San Fransisco and brought up in New England (U.S.A). He took to poetry in 1912 and his first volume A Boy’s Will was published a year later. He was a farmer poet, and his twin vocation of farming and writing poetry remained with him as a pattern of living throughout his life. His second book of dramatic dialogues North of Boston (1914) made him very popular. The years between 1913 and 1963 were mixed with fame and family misfortunes. He received more honours than any other contemporary literary figure in America. Four times he was awarded the pultizer prize for poetry. He read his patriotic poem The Gift Outright, when President John F.Kennedy took office in 1961. The last four lines of his poem stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening were a source of comfort and inspiration to Jawaharlal Nehru. Other anthologies of Frost are Mountain Interval (1916), New Hampshire (1923), West Running Brook (1928), A Further Range (1936), A Witness Tree (1942) and In the Clearing (1962). When he died peacefully in sleep at the age of eighty-eight he was survived by his Jaughter.

After Apple- Picking is a lyric taken from North of Boston. The long monologue brings out the poet’s sheer enjoyment of the scenes,sounds and scents of nature. The weary apple picker who has “done with apple-picking” drifts into a drowsy state in which fact and fancy play hide and seek. Thanks and Regards.
